A concierge travel advisor does much more than book flights, hotels, and vacations. The real value is having someone paying attention to your trip before, during, and after you travel, anticipating potential problems and stepping in when something doesn’t go according to plan.
Sometimes that means carefully researching the right resort or building an itinerary around your family’s needs. Other times, it means moving a tour when a hurricane threatens your plans, intervening when a hotel room isn’t what it should be, or checking your flight status at 1:00 AM to make sure everything looks good for your journey home.
Those aren’t hypothetical examples. They all happened with my clients recently.
What Does Concierge Travel Service Look Like in Real Life?
Recently, clients of mine were traveling through Scotland on a custom itinerary I had planned for them. When they arrived at one hotel and found their room was not acceptable, they didn’t have to figure out who to contact or spend their vacation arguing with a third-party booking company. I stepped in, documented the problem, and worked behind the scenes to address it while they continued their trip.
A few days later, I was up at 1:00 AM tracking their flight home from Edinburgh. Not because they asked me to, but because I wanted to know they were safely on their way and be ready to help if something went wrong.
What Happens When Travel Plans Change?
Travel rarely goes exactly according to plan, and sometimes the best service happens after the itinerary is already complete.
Another client was recently enjoying a 16-day Hawaiian vacation when a hurricane threatened to disrupt part of his itinerary. When his scheduled helicopter tour needed to be moved, I worked with the tour company and had the problem resolved in less than an hour. He got to keep enjoying Hawaii instead of spending his vacation making phone calls and rearranging plans.
At the same time, I was monitoring airline travel waivers and his upcoming flights so I could anticipate any additional disruptions before they became his problem.
So, Is a Concierge Travel Advisor Worth It?
If all you need is someone to click “book,” concierge travel planning may not be necessary. But if you value your time, want thoughtful guidance, and want someone paying attention when you’re thousands of miles from home, that’s where concierge service has real value.
